Raja, a warrior from another world, is on a mission to help AJ, an Earth boy whose family has abandoned him. But when he arrives in this dreadful, unkind place, he discovers that it’s more than just a battle for survival. It’s a battle to save the lives of all living things.
The play reflects Tagore’s realizations during this particular crisis of his life, when he struggled to sublimate the grief of the loss of his mother and the tragedy of political conquest through social activism and artistic creation. He discovered India through his encounters with folk culture, a process which continued through his novel Gora and the verses of Gitanjali, but the realizations found dramatic expression in Raja.
Featuring real elephants, Website camels and horses and a magnificent replica of the fort that once stood in Pune, the production masterfully transported spectators back to the 17th century, enthralling them with its epic tale.
